Leave Beniali via the lane down past the school, at the bottom continue along the camino to the next village,
Benissiva. Opposite the church take "Carrer Olmos Canalda" down to the main road.
Turn right and then left up the steps to the village of Benitaia. At the top of the steps turn right and
follow the road round to the left and straight on (villa marked A1 on your left). Follow this camino past the site of the
old convent on your right (walled in).
Go through 2 sets of "S" bends and take a footpath to the right (south westerly) in the direction of the
Forada (this path is waymarked yellow/white). Eventually this will zigzag to the top. (As you near the top ignore footpaths
leading to the right).
As you level out at the top the track continues towards a cave house in the rock face (you can go and take
a look) but you need the track going right towards the Forada.
The track peters out and you have a bit of a scramble to the "hole" to admire the views. Back down to the
track and look for a slightly broader track going off to the right (southerly). You can see the villages of Alcala and Beniaia
in the distance. Follow this track down and bear right as you level out.
You reach a surfaced camino, turn left and almost immediately on your left are the ruins of the moorish
village of LŽAtzuvieta. Continue past to the main road (CV712) turn right and after 100 metres left into the village of Alcala.
(The restored village font is a good spot for a break).
Continue into the village turning left at the "Assocacio Cultural per a tots" into the main square. Up into
the corner (left of the restaurant) and continue along "Carrer La Torre" which at the top becomes a footpath. Follow this
footpath along a very narrow old aquaduct and up behind the water store onto a broad track. Turn left.
You reach the spot where the "Pouet Treaty" was signed in 1245 between Alfonso of Aragon and moorish leader
Al-Azraq.
A ruin on a left hand bend marks the moorish settlement of Saltes and on the opposite side of the lane down
a track there are the remains of an ancient press (possibly olive or wine).
Continue back on the broad track ignoring any tracks leading off to the right and at the highest point you
reach an old airstrip which runs east to west. (Take time to look at the old Ice House and Bartolos Cave). At the east end
of the airstrip the track drops away to the left, continue and take the next left.
You arrive back at the main road (CV712), go straight across (direction Pego) and this surfaced camino will
eventually bring you back into Beniali.
On the right hand side as you start the descent to Beniali is one of the 241 "network of plant micro-reserves"
- a representation of rare, endemic and threatened flora.
